You Won’t Believe How Heavy-D Rescued a Snowmobile Using This Crazy Jeep JT Rig in the Utah Backcountry
When a snowmobiler took a wrong turn and dropped 30+ feet into a hidden mine shaft, most would’ve called it game over. But not when Heavy D and his crew from Diesel Brothers show up with a custom-built Jeep, a 10,000lb winch, and a plan straight out of an action movie.
Let’s break down this unreal recovery mission that turns into one of the most unforgettable off-road adventures you’ll see this year.

❄️ The Accident: A Snowmobiler’s Worst Nightmare
Somewhere deep in the Uintas back country of Utah, a snowmobiler in his 50s plunged into a vertical “M shaft” hidden beneath fresh snow. With a shattered arm and no way out, emergency crews barely got to him in time. But that was just the beginning.
- He was airlifted to safety…
- But his snowmobile? Still stuck at the bottom of the shaft.
🔧 Enter Heavy D and the Jeep JT Beast
Forget tow trucks—this job needed creativity and brute force.
The Setup:
- A custom tube jib arm mounted off of the Motobilt Tomahawk Bumper of Heavy D’s Jeep Gladiator.
- A Warn 10,000lb winch with YANKUM rope for precision pulls.
- Starlink satellite internet for real-time communication in the wilderness.
- Loaded with tools, supplies, and snacks—because priorities.
The mission? Pull the snowmobile straight up from the depths of the earth.
📍 Finding the Shaft: Welcome to the Wild
Using the OnX Off-Road GPS app, the crew navigated their way to the remote site. Deep snow, unstable terrain, and extreme conditions made even the hell-tracked Razor and prototype Jeep cooling system struggle.
“I’ve never seen snow like this,” Heavy D said. “It was bottomless.”
🛠️ The Wildest Rescue Operation You’ll Ever See
Once on site, the crew lowered Diesel Dave into the shaft to strap up the sled. He was dangling 30+ feet below ground, prepping gear while cracking jokes.
The Plan:
- Compress the sled's suspension using ratchet straps.
- Rig it with shackles and winch lines.
- Hoist it out while Dave stayed tucked into a ledge inside the shaft.
And yes—it worked.
🧭 But Wait… There’s More Shaft
With the sled out, Dave decided to explore further down.
- Turns out the shaft connected to horizontal tunnels. Mine exploration? Maybe next time.
Radio hiccups, some banter, and a near-death vibe added to the intensity. Eventually, they hauled Dave out and moved on.
🏁 The Most Resilient Sled You’ll Ever See
Despite the insane fall:
- The Polaris sled started up.
- Dave rode it out himself—control arms broken, dash mangled, handlebars bent.
Was it graceful? Nope. Was it epic? Absolutely.
Even other crew members took turns trying (and failing) to ride it out. The bloopers were almost as fun as the recovery.
🤝 A Shoutout to Teamwork & Community
Locals who didn’t even know the sled’s owner showed up to help, guide, and dig. Heavy D and team gave massive props to:
- Yankum Ropes
- AMW 4x4
- MotoBilt
- Hell Tracks
- Sparks Motors
🎉 Mission Complete
“That sled was never supposed to come out of that hole,” Heavy D said.
But with ingenuity, grit, and the most bonkers Jeep JT setup you’ve ever seen, they pulled it off.
